High-mountain Gilan village - an immersion into rural life
Experience the unique atmosphere of Gilan, one of the highest mountain villages in Uzbekistan, situated at an altitude of 2,100 meters. For many years, this secluded corner was closed to visitors, allowing its residents to develop a self-sufficient way of life. Today, Gilan welcomes guests with open arms, showcasing genuine Uzbek hospitality.
For centuries, the locals have engaged in agriculture, cultivating the country's renowned potatoes. Gilan's potatoes are famous for their taste and quality, grown by hand on the steep mountain slopes. The natural beauty of Gilan is breathtaking, with majestic mountains, clear rivers, and green valleys creating a tranquil atmosphere. Life here is peaceful and unhurried, with residents always eager to meet new people and invite guests into their homes, where you can experience the warmth and kindness of a large Uzbek family.
Our journey from Samarkand takes us through the picturesque Takhtakaracha Pass, also known as Kitab Pass. At an altitude of 1,800 meters, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the mountains and valleys. There are numerous cozy restaurants here where you can taste the region's delicious dishes, including the famous tandir-cooked meat infused with the aroma of juniper branches. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the local bazaar to purchase the best dried fruits, nuts, and aromatic spices.
As we continue to enjoy the mountain and valley views, we arrive in the hometown of Amir Timur – Shakhrisabz. This city is rich in monumental architecture and beautiful gardens. After exploring the city and having lunch, we head to Gilan through a picturesque gorge, where every turn reveals new impressions and views.
Join our journey to Gilan and discover the unique beauty and traditions of Uzbekistan!
