Kuleta Caravanserai in Bukhara

Kuleta Caravanserai in Bukhara

On the street Mekhtar Ambar, which is in Bukhara, the first building on the right, adjacent to the wall Toki Telpak Furushon is an ancient caravanserai Kuleta.

The caravanserais in Bukhara were inns, surrounded by walls, and are located along the caravan tracks. Travelers could spend the night here, without fear for their livestock and goods. In addition, they could stock up on food here. Large caravanserais served as warehouses for goods, as well as trading floors. All this can be said about the ancient caravanserai Kuleta in Bukhara.

A feature of the Bukhara caravanserais was that they were not the fortified structures, as they were in the city. Thus, the need to build defense facilities to protect against robbers disappeared by itself. Unlike the Seljukid caravanserais, packs of beasts were not kept in the Bukhara caravan-sheds. Near the Samarkand Gate there was a special caravan-shed for livestock. Bukhara caravanserais were the centers of wholesale trade.

The ancient Bukhara caravanserai Kuleta dates back to the 16th century. Currently a blacksmith's museum is in its building.

During your tour around Uzbekistan, when visiting Bukhara sights, see the caravanserai Kuleta. The building, in fact, is old, and deserves special attention.
